Beginners
Learning to fly a model on your own can be frustrating and expensive. It doesn't have to be.
We'll teach you to fly safely
Join the club and we will show you how to fly safely and responsibly. We use a buddy box system to teach new flyers: your transmitter is linked to your instructor's, so they can take control if you get into trouble.
During the spring and summer months we hold dedicated training evenings for new flyers at our field every Thursday. The club supports the Scottish Aeromodellers Association (SAA) flight training scheme, and you will initially be trained to Bronze standard before being allowed to fly solo.
Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian whenever they visit the club.
From first visit to first solo
Come and see us
Visit the field or attend a monthly business meeting. On Thursdays you can also try a taster session.
Join the club
Prospective members get three free visits. When you're ready, apply to join.
Train on the buddy box
Fly with an instructor at your side until you're cleared to come off the buddy box. You'll stay supervised after that.
Pass your Bronze
Once you pass the SAA Bronze test you can fly solo.
Our trainer plane
As a result of an SAA award given to the club for training support, we have purchased a Boomerang trainer. It is specifically for tuition, and it will help our training capability, especially for members starting out in the hobby or those who need additional training.
A big thanks to Alan Bunker for purchasing the model and accessories, and for the time spent getting it ready for flight. Thanks also to the SAA for including us in the running for the award.
