Before you fly

This is a short summary. The club rules are the full version, and every member and visiting pilot must follow them.

  • Hold valid BMFA or SAA insurance, and be ready to show proof.
  • Pass the CAA or association online theory test, hold a flyer ID and operator ID, and fix your operator ID to your aircraft.
  • Visiting pilots must be accompanied by a club member.
  • 27MHz radio equipment is not allowed.
  • No engines started or motors armed in the pits.
  • The maximum windspeed for flying is 25mph, constant or gusting.
  • Stay below 400ft unless you are flying under an Article 16 permit.
  • FPV pilots must always have a spotter with them.

How joining works

  1. Apply

Apply online, or fill in the application form and email it to hmfc_sec_21@yahoo.com.

  2. The board considers it

Your application goes to the next board meeting, and you'll be told the decision in writing or by email.

  3. Pay your fees

New members pay a joining fee and an annual subscription. Flyers also pay for insurance.

  4. Start your first year

New memberships begin with a probationary period of one calendar year.

Fees are set at the AGM and run from 1 April to 31 March. Please ask the secretary for current rates.
